| Abstract | In recent years, computer graphics has developed very rapidly.
A lot of research is going on to produce more realistic image display.
The objective of this research is to give a detailed study of
literature available on rendering algorithms, and indicate frontiers
of current research in rendering, such as fractals, ray tracing and
radiosity. Besides this, for texture mapping, its mathematical
structure is developed in detail. Objects in the real world are
often textured. It is so that a lot of patterns in nature are
fractals. We can immediately see two important problems:
1. Finding the iterated function set to generate a specific
texture (e .g . , texture on apple);
2. Given the fractal picture structure, generate . the mapping
on the object .
The author has designed a mapping algorithm, to map fractal
images from iterated function sets directly onto 3D objects based
on two known algorithms (i .e. , the Deterministic Algorithm and the
Random Iteration Algorithm). The algorithm has been implemented and
tested on simple 3D objects such as cylinder and sphere . It is hoped
that this algorithm will extent the use of fractal images in the
world of pattern design such as pottery, carpets and the aparel
industry. |
