| Abstract | This research study aims to see whether the target group in
the study area has benefited from three components ( i. e ., natural resources, income generation , and savings and credit) of
Pakistan-German Self-Help Project for Rural Development in Balochistan.
Until and unless the rural people mobiliser through their own
organisations they cannot benefit from skilIs , resources and
knowledge offered to them, because inputs cannot be equally
distributed through the delivery system. The people have to organise themselves in a more effective and formal way in order to
manage their affairs in a better way to change their living
conditions. Therefore under the rules of cooperation mutually
agreed upon by the project and the villagers, after the formation
of Village Organization, it is expected that the benefits would
be gained by the target groups. The approach of decentralization,
popular participation and resources mobilization has proved that
benefits reached the target group.
This was due to the active invo.1 vemm1L o[ /Os members, their
understanding of programme philosophy, pro· idi11g t he feed back to
the project staff and the continuous and sincere efforts of
implementing staff.
The people have been permanently settled now, hove easy
access to water ( a basic need for any living being ), have no
more danger to t heir houses from the flood water and are now less
indebted than before. Nevertheless, no one has become a landowner
up to now even to a small land holding.
Anyhow , the policy of Village
Organization and capital
village level has· proved that desirable results can be achieved
if the project objectives and people ' s needs are common.
It is recommended to hove more stress on the trni1dng opportunities for the villagers accord:i11g to their needs which later
can help to generate income. It is also necessary to extend
natural resources protection activities to cover other aspects ,
and provide loans to t he VO members for the purchase of agriculture and residential lands so they can become free of the land -
lords control. |
