| Abstract | The purpose of this study was to design an automated storage retrieval warehouse for Thai
Airways Cargo Tenninal, Don Muang Airport.
In this study, an AS/RS optimal design model for air cargo operation was developed. The
objective of the model was to minimize total cost that met overall operation~! constraints of an air
cargo operations. This problem was solved by an algorithm based on enumeration. The design
obtained was further tested by discrete event simulation model to study the d~tail perfonnance and
to test on an alternative oper~ting policy.
·A design configuration with 7 rows, 34 columns and 4 stacker cranes (aisle) was found to be
the optimum for the case under study. Further detail simulation study on the design also confirmed
that the result was acceptable. To study on further possible improvement, Closest Open Location
Policy (COL) was tested by simulation. A reduction of 7% in travel time was achievable compared
to the randomized policy. The sensitivity on the throughput rate was also studied, which justified
that the above design was flexible for future growth. Other possible configurations were also tested
for evaluation against the optimal design. Finally, it was concluded that the optimal solution
obtained was most suitable for implementation. |
