| Abstract | This study proposes an alternative approach to the machine
requirements planning in a multi-product, multi-machine and
multi-stage manufacturing environment. Two techniques were used,
a mixed integer programming method where the factors of
production such as resource and budget constraints are taken into
consideration; and a multi-objective optimization goal
programming model, where the conflicting goals of meeting demand
and the minimization of the use of scarce resources are taken
into account.
The solution of the problem specifies the number of
production hours necessary in each shift to meet demand, and the
number of machines required in each work center.
Sensitivity analysis, making changes on the right hand side
parameter - demand, coefficient of the working hours for each
shift, and priority restructuring of goals, were performed on the
mixed integer programming and goal programming models,
respectively.
The models were subsequently applied to a hard disc
manufacturing company and integer and continuous solutions
generated from the two models were compared. Computational
efficiency was also noted for each approach . |
