| Abstract | The data preparation phase of most finite element analysis programs has notably
been very slow and a time consuming process. Once data are input, one cannot ensure
the validity of the input data until such time that the results of a lengthy calculation seem
to be unacceptable. Interpretation and verification of results take considerable time and
effort.
The Extended Version of the Finite Element Analysis Program (XFEAP), a general
purpose program for finite element analysis, share similar problem. In an attempt to
reduce this, a preprocessor and a postprocessor system for the program has been
developed.
The preprocessor system offers an interactive environment suitable for creating and
editing a data file. It generates the finite element model so that coordinates and element
connectivities which constitute a major portion of the input can be checked.
The postprocessor system provides an interactive graphics program which can be
used to display the model as well as displacement and internal stresses.
On top of these a program manager has also been developed so that access to the
modules becomes a straightforward process. |
