| Abstract | Prestressed concrete beams were tested to investigate the
mechanical behavior in shear with the scope of conducting a
detailed experimental observation on the effects of varying
levels of prestressing force on shear crack displacements and
stirrup stress as well as the shear cracking behavior of the
beams . The magnitudes of the crack opening and shear displacement
were meticulously measured using contact gage points. Forces
transferred along the diagonal cracks were determined applying
the Li- Maekawa Model on Contact Density Function to the measured
crack displacements.
The crack opening and shear displacement ratio decreases for
beams with higher applied prestressing forces, so that the
stresses transferred by aggregate interlocking along shear crack
surfaces were found to be greater with higher prestressing force
while stirrup forces along the shear crack are smaller. Total
forces transferred along the shear crack, which is the summation
of forces transferred by aggregate interlocking and by the
stirrup, were observed to be grater with higher prestressing
force. |
