| Abstract | A state-of-art review is made about various approaches to
ground water management problems . Optima l control approach which
integrates the dynamic optimization theory and the hydrologic and
economic principles is an extremely useful tool for comprehensive
analysis in determining optimal level of social welfare function
from utilization of open-access resources such as ground water.
In order to fully consider the distributed parameter nature
of the ground water dynamics, and to overcome the associated
'curs e of dimensionality' , an optimal control model for ground
water management in space a nd time is formulated and a
computationally feasible solution methodology with its basis on
constrained differential dynamic programming is presented. The
model objective function is maximization of the present value of
the ne t benefits from ground water use over the planning horizon,
subject to various physical/non-physical constraints, and the
'equations of motion' is estimated by a standard aquifer
simulation model. |
