| Abstract | Studies were conducted in the field to compare the tractive
performance of a power tiller fitted with uncoated a nd e name l
coated cage wheel lugs. Results of the studies indicated that the
pull for a given level of slip and the depth of hard pan for the
coated as well as t h e uncoated lugs was , in general, maximum for
the soil condition when its moisture was close to the plastic
limit ( 23. 9% d .b. ) . Next in decreasing order were for flooded
( 47.7% d . b.) and wet unsaturate d (37.4% d.b .) amongst the wetter
soil conditions. The pull forgiven level of slip decreased
with increase in the depth of hard pan under moist soil
conditions (~ 23 . 9% d .b .). The pull of the power tiller wheels
fitted with enamel coated lugs at any level of slip was higher
than that of wheels fitted with uncoated lugs for these soil
conditions. Al so, the mean values of pull corresponding to 100%
slip were higher b y 6.03% on an average. These differences were
found to be statistically significant at 5% level . In dry soil
conditions , the differences of me an values of pull at 100% s lip
for coated and uncoated lugs were statistically non-significant
at 5% l eve l . Th e differences between the Mean values of maximum
power for the coated and uncoated lugs were, in general ,
statistically non- significant at 5% level . Maximum pull in case
of uncoated lugs was limited due to the cage wheel blocking in moist soil conditions , which resulted in 100% s lip. Cage wheel
blocking was n ever observed in case of e name l coated lugs. |
