| Abstract | Farm ponds have been designed and constructed widely in Thailand in
order to serve basic needs and solve the drought problem for people in
rural areas. Farm pond is a type of small scale water resources
development (SSWRD) project, for which the Royal Thai Government (RTG)
has provided budgets of many million baht per year. Farm pond design
and construction need low technology and budget but adequate design data
and principles should be used in order to get an "economic pond" serving
total requirements. The adequate data of rainfall , human water
requirement, livestock water requirement, water requirement for paddy
rice, vegetables , garden crops and field crops also evaporation loss,
seepage loss, water needed for fish and sedimentation are given. Types
of farm pond and the design criteria are mentioned and discussed. Three
case studies of farm pond are presented. |
