| Abstract | An information system for a small-sized hotel is designed
using the entity-relationship approach. This entity-relationship
data model has been extended to include both the structural and
dynamic properties of data. The design process is carried out in
two main steps, logical design and physical design. Emphasis on
the logical design phase is on the description of the behaviour
of entities of the hotel information system at the conceptual
level. In order to describe the behaviour of entities and their
changes that take place over a period of time , the notion of
instantiation and Petri Net diagrams are used. The hotel
information system, designed to be installed on microcomputers,
is implemented in Microsoft Cobol language. As the system is
basically a file management system, each of the entities and
their relationships have been translated into a conventional
Cobol file with the attributes represented as the fields of the
fil e. The hotel information system is interactive in nature. |
