| Abstract | Rock salt from 11 drilled holes were collected from the Khorat Plateau
in northeastern Thailand. Its physical, mechanical and chemical properties
which include bulk density, water content, Shore scleroscope hardness,
sonic velocity, unconfined compressive strength, e l Astic moduli, t ensile
strength, triaxial compressive strength, uniAxial creep behaviour and
chemical constituents were studied in detail in lRboratory. The
correlations between various properties were established . The results show
that the intact rock salt can be classified as l ow strength low modulus
ratio. A simple power law function reflects the primary and secondary creep
bahnviour of t he rock salt at room temperature under creep stress lower than
45% of its unconfined compressive strength . The water content and P-wave
velocity are suitable index properties for making rapid assessments of
unconfined compressive strength of rock salt while the bulk density is a
suitable for index property of tensile strength. |
