| Abstract | An investigation was conducted to develop an air travel demand
forecasting model to predict the volume of air passengers traveling in
specific routes in the Kingdom of Thailand. The previous related studies
are reviewed and the state of domestic air transportation in Thailand is
presented.
The characteristics of domestic air travel demand in Thailand is
investigated through the analysis of statistical data . It is found that
tourists from outside Thailand have a high influence on the air travel
pattern in the country. Thus, two mathematical intercity air traffic
demand forecasting models for Thailand are developed based on the concept
of modified gravity model. The first model considers the influence of
country residents alone; and the second considers the combined influence
of country residents and foreign tourists in tourist routes.
Due to non-availability of necessary data for the calibration of
these two models, a simplified model was used and calibrated. The
simplified model, which incorporates population and distance factors, was
found to explain 67% of the variation of the dependent variable. |
