| Abstract | The Mahendra Rajmarga- Sindhuli Road of Nepal is a part of proposed
Banepa-Sindhuli-Bardibas road corridor, which has a great impact on national economy. Proper design and construction of pavement structure
plays significant role for reducing transportation cost . The purpose of
the research study was focused on (i) the flexible pavement design of
existing 'Mahendra Rajmarga (East-West Highway) - Sindhuli Road' based
on three different methods namely AASHTO, Asphalt Institute and Road
Note-31, (ii) economic comparison of different pavement types.
The study was conducted by stage construction approach with two
stages at years 1991~ and 1998, the later being an expected year for the
completion of the Sindhuli-Banepa sector. Possibilities of traffic diversion from the East-West Highway and Calcutta-the nearest sea port-were
considered. Alternative Pavement ·thicknesses were obtained and the economic analysis was done by the Present Worth Method at 10% discount rate
for 25 year analysis period. The result concluded preference of the
pavement thickness by Road Note-31 method. |
