| Abstract | A procedure is developed for assessing the reliability of jacket
offshore structures, in conditions where they will suffer fatigue
damage. A typical fixed steel offshore platform installed in the
Taiwan Strait under the dynamic actions of wind, waves, currents, and
earthquakes is investigated.
The wave action is modelled as an ergodic Gaussian process with
narrow-band characteristics using JONSWAP spectra . The wave spectra
are modified t o include effects of currents, and wind action is
assumed as a percentage of wave action. The corresponding wave force
spectra are determined by Airy's linear wave theory. The wind
velocity distribution at the site is represented by a Weibull
distribution. Earthquake action is considered as a wide band zero mean
ergodic Gaussian process with finite duration, in which Tajimi's power
spectra are used. Earthquake and wave actions are the main actions
considered for the fatigue analysis.
Fatigue failure according to Miner's model is computed, in which
accumulation of fatigue damage is linear. A lognormal format is used
for analysing the fatigue reliability employing the first-order
second-moment reliability method.
The system reliability is determined by modelling the structure
as a combination of series and parallel systems, in which the
redundancy of the structural system is assumed as of standby type . |
