| Abstract | The study employed land suitability classification as systematic
measurement done upon the two objects : 1) selected horticultural crops and
2)the selected area in the Mae Klang Basin ,namely tidal flat ,former tidal
flat with recent marine and brackish water deposits, and former tidal flat
with old marine and brackish water deposits. Nine fruit trees and eight
of vegetables were selected and their general and specific requirements on
land was studied to establish the classification criteria. The
classification system studied was adapted from some recognized systems
combining the limitation concept with the parametric classification
approach, on the basis of Framework of Land Evaluation( FA0,1976).
The classification outputs were shown in series of land parameters
with their 4 degrees of limitation and in categoric system of 5 classes by
multiple-additive method. For both vegetables and fruit trees Damnoen
Saduak Thonburi, and Samut Songkhram series were in the most suitable
class due to their artificial drainage and good nutrient availability . The
Tha Chin series and Samut Prakan series, very saline phase, in tidal flat
were the poorest because of high salinity, high exchangeable sodium content
and high ground water table. The former tidal flat soils with old deposits
have acidity and poor structure limitation. Ban Len series, and some others
series were somewhat productive unless flooded. The system also provided
the potential suitability classification by assuming that the poor drainage
and high ground water table were together eliminated. |
