| Abstract | This study attempts to evaluate the women's groups activities located in self-help land settlements in NE Thailand. It attempts to establish the degree of involvement of women and to identify the problems
encountered in the implementation of government sponsored women's groups
activities, whether occupation-related or social activities.
It was found that the women most appreciated those women's groups
activities which they perceived could improve their household economic
status or their family's standard of living . The difference between the
on-going women's group activities and those which had ceased related to
the leadership of the management group and the type of activities . Also
the degree to which those activities are consistent with the traditional
skills or knowledge of the women seemed to influence the continuity of
the activities. Women's groups were however affected by major marketing
problems.
It is suggested that the government officials in land settlements
take more initiative in trying to coordinate among the different organizations in order to introduce appropriate activities to suitable women's
groups after problem analysis and feasibility study. An officer should
be specifically responsible for assistance to and follow-up of the implementation of the women's group activities |
