| Abstract | This paper reports on a study done on the maintenance system
of an integrated pulp and paper mill. An investigation of the
major causes of machine breakdowns and their possible prevention
was conducted using a simplified version of the snap-shot modelling technique. A maintenance-by-priority system was formulated
establishing machine criticality indices. Finally, three preventive maintenance policies, formulated on the basis of limiting
efficiency and long run expected cost per unit time, were utilized.
