| Abstract | Lot sizing is a n important inventory decision in order to
determine the order size and the time to place an order. This
study focuses on lot sizing problems(DLSP's), characterized by a
single product, single stage production with varying but
deterministic demand. In this paper both, capacitated and
uncapacitated DLSP, are considered and studied as a facility
location problem. The facility location problems p-Media n (pMP)
and p-Center are used to model particular cases of DLSP.
A specific matrix multiplication algorithm (based on
shortest path) was developed for solving pMP modelling DLSP . From
the comparison made between the matrix multiplication and
classical branch & bound method (Kaufan), the matrix
multiplication algorithm is found to b e more efficient in solving
DLSP . The pCP, whose objective function is different from pMP,
was a l so mode l e d as DLSP a nd the solution procedure based on a
matrix multiplication algorithm for pMP was developed.
It appears that the framework of facility location is a
useful framework for DLSP : it offers new ideas for modelling . On
the other h a nd, DLSP related problems determine a subset of
facility location problems which are easy to solve. |
