| Abstract | A rational study of the design and proposed construction of
the Chao Phya Cable Stayed Bridge in Bangkok has been presented. The bridge was analysed as a planar structural system for various loading conditions . A two-dimensional finite element analysis of
the planar system was carried out for determining the effect of
static loading conditions on the bridge. To determine the
stresses and the deflections in the girder during the erection
process, the analysis was carried out on every substructure
subjected to a load appropriate for each construction step. The
stresses and the displacements of the girder due to dead load are reduced after the erection by the application of the restressing
forces in the cables .
The bridge was designed using linear elastic theory of
structure and linearized buckling theory. The German Standards
Specifications DIN were adopted for design. The cantilever
erection method was proposed for the construction of the bridge. The construction steps are discussed. A nonlinear analysis of this bridge is recommended to be carried out to verify the required safety. |
