| Abstract | A solution scheme is presented for torsional vibrations of
cylindrical footings, partially embedded into a semi infinite
medium . In this approach the near field is modelled with finite
elements and the far field with infinite elements.
An axisymmetric horizontal infinite element capable of
propagating shear waves in the frequency domain is developed to solve the torsional load transfer problem. By making use o f the horizontal infinite element the near field size may be reduced in
size, resulting in a system characterised by relatively few
degrees of freedom, which provides a n economical solution to the load transfer problems.
The applicability o f the new horizontal element is checked by
finding the torsional compliance of a rigid circular plate
subjected to harmonic loading. Torsional load transfer is
investigated for the cases where the real moment amplitude of the complex excitation is constant and where the real moment amplitude
is proportional to the square of the excitation frequency.
An axisymmetric horizontal infinite element is developed. to
solve the general load transfer problem in cylindrically
orthotropic, elastic, infinite media. The element is capable of
propagating Rayleigh , s hear and pressure waves in the frequency domain. The element could be used, together with the radial infinite element already available, in future research concerning elastodynamic load transfer problems. |
