| Abstract | A series of cyclic triaxial tests were carried out on undisturbed samples to clarify the cyclic .behavior of Bangkok (Rangsit) soft clay. Based on the tests results obtained from the cyclic tests employing different
conditions , tile effects of confining stress and initial
shear stress on the cyclic properties o f clay, such as
excess pore water pressure built-up, s h ear strain
development, cyclic strength, shear modulus and damping
ratio, were investigated.
The results showed that t he in creasing rate of excess pore water pressure decreases with increase in confining stress, and less excess pore water pressure is built up under the condition with init1ai shear stress than
without initial shear stress.
With increase in initial shear stress, the stress-strain curve was flattened to some extent. The cyclic strength expressed by the stress ratio was higher in
the test with 1.0 Kgf/cm2 confining stress, while the
cyclic strength expressed by· the deviator stress was higher
in the test with l.5 kgf/cm2 confining stress.
It was vague to tin d out any dependency or initial
shear stress a nd effective continuing stress on the s hear
modulus and damping ratio , in general, however, the shear
modulus decreased and damping ratio increased with
increasing axial strain.
The shear modulus was distributed in the zone
obtained cy MARCUSON et al.(1972) and KOK USHO et al.(1982), damping ratio teemed a group between curves obtained by ISHIHARA et al. (1975 ) and KOKOUSHO et al. ( 1982) • |
