| Abstract | The study looks into the structure of industries/sectors in the region, trends or changes of the industry mix resulting from relative growth of sector using Shift and Shure Technique.
The study also determines the degree of concentration
of activities of sector using the Location Quotient as tool
or analysis. For both techniques, Production and .Employment
were used as the base data.
Lastly the report analyses
some economic indicators that would help explain the changes of the industry structure of the region.
For the eight sectors under study, agriculture, mining, electricity and services (business) have an apparent
competitive advantage with value added as the data base . On the other hand , using employment as the indicator five
sectors Delong to t his category. These sectors were mining,
manufacturing , transport, commerce and services (personal) .
Except for construction all the other sectors have a greater probability of generating more employment in the region than for the sectors outside the region. However, if employment generation capability is of prime consideration in the policy measures for the region, besides construction, three other sectors would be included with least capability of absorbing more workers. These sectors were agriculture, services (business) and electricity. |
