| Abstract | The instantaneous luminous intensity of headlamp beams of moving vehicles at 60 m from a standard target and in a particular direction were measured in Thailand. The
values obtained in Thailand were compared with research
results previously obtained by YERRELL (1 971 ) in Continental
Europe and the United Kingdom. The average luminous intensity in Thailand was greater than found in Europe , and the variation of observations in Thailand were greater than
those in Continental Europe.
The observations in Thaila nd and in Continental Europe were comprised of about 35 percent of vehicles with luminous intensities between 1500 to 2500 ed. The observations between vehicle headlamp intensities in the Thailand a nd those previously obtained in Europe were found to have come f rom statistically different populations at the 5% level o f significance. The headlamp beams of heavy vehicles in Thailand illuminate an object ahead of the vehicle more than those of light vehicles.
Measurement oi the glaring effect of headlamp beams
should be undertaken for a more complete analysis of highway
vehicle headlamp intensities and heir distributional characteristics. |
