| Abstract | Six isotropic square reinforced concrete slabs, with either
circular or square mesh reinforcement, were made and tested with
four edges simply supported. Tests were made with a central load
and with uniformly distributed load. Two heavily reinforced slabs
with circular reinforcement were first tested under a central load,
followed by two lightly reinforced slabs, one with circular rein¬
forcement and the other with the same total volume of square mesh
reinforcement also under a central load. Two more lightly rein¬
forced slabs were also tested under uniformly distributed load.
Collapse loads were compared to theoretical values obtained from
yield line theory and from the study of steel percentages involved.
Test results show that yield line theory is well suited for
ultimate load design of slabs. The load capacity of these two
types of slab is nearly the same, but the conventional square
mesh reinforced slab is still more generally useful and more
economical in labour than the circularly reinforced slab. |
