| Abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to study traffic movements and
delays at the Rajatevi roundabout intersection. A photographic
technique in combination with manual counting was used to gather the
data. Delays, with reference to stopped-time delays, were observed
by the operation of test cars. The elements of traffic movement at
this roundabout are approaching volume, crossing volume, delays, and
acceptable time gaps for entry into a crossing stream of vehicles.
Some of these variables were analyzed by attempting to fit standard
statistical distributions to the observed data* Comparison was made
between maximum hourly volumes of approaching traffic and the possible capacity of a roundabout as obtained from Wardrop’s formula for
the capacity of a weaving section. |
