| Abstract | This research deals with the study of the effect of cost escalation in construction. Cost coefficients used to find the escalation factors for the activities in the foundation and structural parts of a construction project are analyzed herein from the data gathered in a survey conducted in Bangkok. The study is extended to the analysis of the cash flow of the project and the determination of the financial capital needed by the general contractor in case of cost escalation. This analysis is made easy by the application of the Critical Path Method of planning and scheduling construction projects. For illustration purposes, ·the foundation and structural parts of an engineering construction project of about two years duration are used as examples to show how the algorithm can be applied. |
