AbstractA Azotobacter species was isolated from the Pepsi sludge, and re-cultivated it in the Pepsi wastewater, with no supplementation of nitrogen source , to test its treatability. The values of the important parameters in both batch and continuous cultures , had been evaluated and compared with that obtained from completely mixed activated sludge process. Data shown similar COD removal efficiency, but significantly differed in yield and MLSS concentrations, in the reactor, which were resulted from that higher portion of organics were consumed for nitrogen fixation by the Azotobacter species. However, further work to be required for judging its applicability to treat the nitrogen-deficient wastes.
