AbstractAn approximate method is investigated which provides a simplified treatment of the mechanics of multilayered orthotropic plate on Winkler\\'s foundation. The method is derived on the assumption of plane strain deformation. Behaviors of a single layer plate are first investigated. The theory is then extended to the case of a multilayered plate, and the microelastic stress couple is also evaluated for this case. Several examples of homogeneous plates are studied. Numerical results are presented in the form of graphs. The comparison of deflections and fiber stresses obtained by the proposed method and the classical plate theory shows that these two solutions are close.
