| Abstract | Industrialization is a meta process which is attributed by
its goal oriented, systemic, responsive and pervasive properties. To initiate or to further the process, as well as to overcome the impediments, it entails the study of the characteristics of the industry, in
its perspective and functional interactions in the past, present and anticipated future. The purpose of this study is to portray the characteristics of
the manufacturing industry of Hong Kong. It includes the consideration of the resources base and economic background, which reflects the export
oriented feature of the colony, and the investigation into the industrial structure of the manufacturing industry in terms of the trading, production, investment, technological change and innovation, productivity and employment characteristics. An analysis of the growth pattern and factors influencing those are also included, Some of the factors are
export performance, production costs and high level manpower employment. Detailed accounts of the textile industry in the manufacturing operations,
production and export, technological and employment characteristics have also been presented. It includes an assessment of the dynamic feature of the textile industry.
Finally, a general discussion is given to summarize the whole
study as well as to scrutinize the growing features and suggestions for the foreseeable future, of the overall industrial development and the
development of the textile industry in particular. |
