AbstractThe problem "How large the drag and inertia coefficients are when the object is in or near free or fixed boundary" has been important in design work of large moored storage tank. The results of an analytical and experimental investigation are presented for the force induced by an oscillatory flow on a submerged sphere under the effect of water surface and sea bottom. The components of force consist of drag force and inertia force. Changes of drag force coefficient and inertia force coefficient in the range of 10 4 < Re < 106 are expressed in term of submergence, Reynolds number and Froude number in order to clarify the governing phenomena.
