AbstractThe behavior of elastic simply supported T-beams is discussed considering the effect of warping deformation due to the presence of shear deformation. The Navier-Bernoulli hypothesis assumes that plane sections normal to the neutral axis before deformation remain plane after deformation. The elementary beam theory is modified in such a way that the continuity of warping deformation due to the shear strain is satisfied. Numerical examples are presented for simply supported T-beams under uniformly distributed load and under a patch load spread over a fairly small length at the mid-span.
