AbstractThis study addresses the issue of urbanization in Thailand and the problems of optimum city size. It demonstrates the complexity involved in defining and formulating meaningful criteria for the evaluation of the optimum size, and studies the problems of minimum per capita cost with respect to city size. Capital costs of a number of subsystems necessary for city expansion were estimated in a systematic way with specific reference to Korat as a typical case, and the results were related to the overall urbanization strategy for Thailand.
