| Abstract | An experimental investigation was conducted to study rolling resistance in paddy land.. Bekker\'s and Reece\'s theories were used to predict it in general. Two experiments were carried out in this study; one was the rolling resistance test for measuring the rolling resistance directly, and the other the penetration test for obtaining the soil parameters of Bekker\'s and Reece\'s equations from which the rolling resistance was calculated theoretically. Because the surface of the paddy land is cultivated and flooded, it forms a two-layer soil which is not consistent with the assumptions of these theories, which are assumed to be applied to homogeneous soil only. The results show that prediction of rolling resistance by these two equations is quite similar. Both of them are satisfactory for 42-in. wheel but are too high for the 48-in. wheel. Most of soil parameters affect rolling resistance consistent Bekker\' s and Reece\'s equations. Only one converse to these theories is that rolling resistance increases when the wheel width increases. |
