| Abstract | The cracking and ultimate loads of under-reinforced concrete pile
caps obtained experimentally are compared with those predicted by means of a simple analysis based on truss analogy. Eight one-half scale models consisting of two-pile, three-pile and four-pile caps designed
according to ACI Code (318-63) were tested to destruction. The following variables were considered: (a) depth of pile cap, (b) steel ratio, (c) concrete strength, and (d) column size. Test results indicate that good predictions of the cracking and ultimate loads of these pile caps can be: obtained by the use of truss analogy. The cracking and ultimate loads are found to coincide reasonably well with the yield point stress and ultimate tensile strength of the steel respectively. |
