AbstractThe elastic rigidities and stress distribution in orthogonally stiffened reinforced concrete slabs were studied theoretically and experimentally. Two reinforced concrete model slabs, each 5 ft. by 5 ft. in dimension were tested under cylindrical bending and anticlastic corner loads for the determination of the flexural and torsional rigidities respectively. One slab is provided with similar stiffeners in two orthogonal directions and the other with dissimilar stiffeners. Deflection and strain measurements obtained from the experiments are in reasonable agreement with values predicted by an analysis of orthotropic plates for slabs with open section eccentric stiffeners.
