AbstractAn experimental investigation was conducted onĀ· the phenomenon of air entraining vortex flow. A dimensional analysis were used to determine the flow parameters which was thought to control the air entraining conditions. A rectangular and a circular containers were used to conduct the experimental tests. Two kinds of fluid, water and 0il, were used for this experiment. The vortex was formed by the fluid being removed from the container through a circular intake at the bottom of the container. The size of the circular intakes were varied, having diameters of 4, 3, 2, 1, 1/2 inches for the rectangular reservoir and 2, 1, 1/2, 1/4 inches for the circular tank. The experimental results were presented graphically. The tests indicate that a relationship between the geometric scale, the Froude number and the ratio of the viscous force and surface tension force may describe the flow phenomenon.
