AbstractThis study deals primarily with the problem of application of distribution transformers subjected to various types of loads and load growth rates which are usually found in metropolitan areas. Effects of initial installation and changeout loading values for each type of load and load. growth rate on the transformer operating costs are investigated by means of a model employing a digital computer. This model also incorporates the effects of loading on transformer thermal deterioration. The results of the model are used to establish criteria for making decisions about initial capacities and subsequent replacements of distribution transformers, depending upon the load pattern and growth.
