AbstractThe investigations of accelerated curvilinear motion of a sphere in water were made. Spheres were launched by e. spring launcher in a water tank. The trajectory of sphere was spotted on film by the use of a camera and a stroboscope. The equation which gives the ballistic trajectory in the air with a non-linear drag tennis used as a theoretical approach to express the trajectory. A relationship between instantaneous Reynolds number and drag coefficient for accelerated motion was compared with that between Reynolds number and drag coefficient for steady-state motion. It is found that the drag measured at non-steady states is larger than that in steady flows.
