AbstractAn iterative procedure based on the Stodola-Vianello Procedure is developed for the determination of stresses and displacement sand the prediction of the factor of safety against buckling of guyed towers. The guys are assumed to be straight, two-force members. Force-displacement relationships are derived for a single guy and for three- and four-guy arrangements. A computer program in IBM 1130 Fortran Language valid for either hinged or fixed base support conditions, for round, square, or triangular tower shaft, and for three- or four-guy arrangements is developed. Parameters affecting the structural behavior of guyed towers are investigated. A model tower is designed and tested to buckling; a theoretical analysis of the model is conducted. Theoretical and experimental values of guy tensions, displacements at the guy points, stresses and buckling load, are correlated to establish the validity and range of applicability of the proposed analysis.
