AbstractTidal fluctuations of ground water levels in an inland locality have long been observed. They occur more generally than is commonly believed. This research is a theoretical investigation into the fluctuation characteristics of water tables due to ocean tides and other types of water oscillations. Both circular and strip islands were subjected to four types of input, namely: step, linear, sawtoothed, and sinsusoidal. The theory makes use of Laplace transformations and the results are expressed as infinite series of Bessel functions. The computed results were presented graphically. The EAL TR-20 analog computer was employed toverified some of the theoretical results
