AbstractTwo unsymmetrical column less slab type stairway models, viz., a one-eighth scale perspex model and a half-scale reinforced concrete model, were built and tested to determine the load distribution in the structure. Each structure comprised two flights of stairs, connected by a landing, supported at the upper and the lower floors. The perspex model was tested under various arrangements of load to compare the experimental data with the theoretical results. The half-scale concrete model was designed partly by GOULD’s method and partly by SIEV’s method. Slab moments in the flights and torsion in the landing were obtained by GOULD\'s method while plate stresses and torsional moments in the flights were computed by SIEV\'s method. The concrete model was also tested to compare the experimental data with the theoretical values.
