AbstractThe strength and behavior of slender upstand RC beams in restrained torsion was determined by using small scale, micro-concrete models. Eighteen models were tested in two main series; one without web reinforcement and one with web reinforcement. The amounts of web reinforcement and the eccentricities of loading were the main variables. The methods of predicting the ultimate loads of beams without web reinforcement and the cracking loads for beams with web reinforcement given by NYLANDER (vv + vt = ft), COLLINS, et al (V/Vo + T/To = 1), and ERSOY&FERGUSON (vv + vt = [2.6 + 2.4T/Vb‘] √f\'c ⪳ 5.0 √fc \') were used for comparison. For predicting the ultimate loads of beams with web reinforcement, the interaction curve (T/Tu + V/Vu = 1) given by Australian Code was used.
