AbstractThe drag forces produced by submerged turbulent round jets on circular disks, oriented axisymmetrically and normally to the flow, were investigated. The drag coefficient was expressed in terms of the density, nozzle diameter and velocity. Variations of drag coefficients were determined as a function of the nozzle diameter, nozzle jet velocity, disk diameter, and the centerline distance of the disk from the origin of the jet. A theory was developed to describe the drag force on the circular disk. The measured data were found to agree closely with the theoretical results for most flow conditions. Curves are presented in dimensionless form describing the theoretical and experimental results
