AbstractThis study tries to predict the variation of base flow in the Chao Phraya River at Nakhon Sawan. The base flow in the dry season from January to March is the most interesting part. The volume and its recession are selected to study. The statistical method is used to correlate the base flow characteristics with the change in hydrologic and physiographic factors over the drainage basin. The study shows that in the period of low effect from irrigation, the dry season base flow volume and its recession rate are highly controlled by the wet season runoff and the carry-over groundwater storage from past years. In the period of high spread in irrigation the volume of base flow decreases as the irrigated area increases, the recession coefficient is dependent upon the stages of land development. The correlation of annual precipitation and base flow is not so high. The dry season PET, dry season rainfall, dry season PET less dry season rainfall and estimated annual PET do not show any significant correlation with the base flow.
