AbstractSimilar to other Batch Process Industry, wastewater Characteristics of Drum Reconditioning Process varied significantly from time to time, especially when the batch process wastewater was discharged. This type of wastes, because of its concentrated contaminants and/or surge in volume, can be troublesome to both treatment facilities and receiving stream. The general successful method, which Drum Reconditioning Process is no exception, is to treat and retain the batch wastes in holding tank from which they are allowed to flow continuously and uniformily over an extended period. Wastewater volume and strength reduction which are the first step in minimizing the effects of Industrial Wastes on receiving stream and treatment facilities, constitutes an important part in this study. More than 50% of wastewater load can be separated from treatment facilities and significant reduction of wastewater strength was obtained. As a result, it can be seen that sometimes the additional investment cost, needed for improvement of wastewater handling system, can be compensated by the beneficial from the improvement. In this case, the additional investment cost will be returned within one and a half year from the saving of caustic soda used and recovery of wasted oils.
