| Abstract | The main purpose of this study was to develop a procedure in selecting optimum pump size for irrigating the winter crop IR - 8, in Bangladesh where the farm size is very small. days. crop. Since water requirement of any crop depends on many factors, such as evaporation rate, evapotranspiration, Crop factor, root depth, rainfall rate, humidity, Soil properties and temperature, System Dynamic Model has been developed in this study to find out the optimum quantity of water which will be needed to cultivate IR - 8 in an area of 20 acres of land in Bangladesh. Even though the model has been run with the data of a particular locality, it is quite general and applicable to any environment. The model has two parts. First part consists of 45 day. In this period the water requirement depends on root depth of the crop. So stage analysis is necessary in this part. The second part covers a period of 105 days during which time the water requirement is independent of the root depth because root depth becomes constant. In the Pump selection process, only the centrifugal pump has been taken into consideration. The total pumping cost of different sizes of pumps The pump which has the least total cost and at the same time meets the desired size specification is recommended for selection. To compare the economic and engineering feasibility of the study, the ratio of total cost and total revenue have been found out. The ratio of total cost and total revenue shows the method is much superior than the method that now adopted in Bangladesh. |
