| Abstract | Urbanization has usually been viewed as a one way process, from rural to urban areas.
Little is know about the movement from the city back to
the villages. This pilot study is an attempt to identify the people who have moved back from the urban to the rural areas. The people identified were
interviewed to know their characteristics, the problems encountered upon return and the comparative conditions they are in now. Ten in depth interviews were made in writing as well as on tape recording. Written interviews were made based on a prepared questionnaire while the tape-recorded interviews were made as an attempt to penetrate deeper into the stated reasons by the out-migrants.
Interviews were further extended to the interviewee's father, mother or uncle whenever possible to know what changes were noted in the interviewee and to cross-check the answers given by such. |
