AbstractThe static behavior of long rectangular plates continuous over three parallel rows of equidistant columns and subjected to (a) uniformly distributed load,(b) longitudinal line load and (c) transverse line load is analyzed. The practical importance of such a structure is evident in the modern design of double-bay buildings, raft foundations and elevated high¬ ways, where the elimination of beams and girders reduces the height of the structures. Of particular interest are the derivation of the particular integrals which allow the total solutions to satisfy the boundary conditions of the problem and the treatment of unequal column reactions. The columns are treated as finite line supports in order to alleviate the infinitely large values of the shear stress resultants due to point supports. Parametric studies are carried out and the results are presented to facilitate the design of such structures.
