AbstractThis thesis describes a regional analysis of short duration (0.5 hr., 1 hr., 2 hrs.) rainfalls at most parts of Thailand. Short length records of annual short duration rainfalls at stations in a homogeneous region were combined to give a longer record applicable to the whole region. In some of the previous studies estimates for an ungaged area were done by using the records of the nearby stations after showing the existence of correlation of these records. In some other studies averaging of the records of stations in a homogeneous region were made. In this study, records of stations were combined in a region after testing both, the independence of these records, and the homogeneity of the region. In the analysis, four different frequency distributions are used in fitting the combined annual rainfall data of the stations in a homogeneous region. These distributions are : 1. Gumbel’s (Extreme values) probability distribution, 2. Gamma probability distribution, 3. Lognormal probability distribution, 4. Pearson’s probability distributions. The goodness of fit tests of these distributions to the data were made by chi-square method.
