| Abstract | The purpose of this study is to find adequate mathematical models to represent a discrete time series of monthly flows at Bhumiphol Dam, Tak, Thailand. The model is made up of a trend, a periodic and a stochastic component. The trend component was eliminated by adding irrigation diversion to measured flows at the dam site and thereby obtaining the reconstructed virgin flows. The logarithm of virgin flow series were then made stationary or periodicity free in two ways: (a)by deducting from each calendar month value its long term mean and dividing this difference by the standard deviation of that month and (b) by fitting a periodic function of 12-month period and its sub¬ harmonics. The techniques of correlogram and spectral analysis were used to detect the periods in the monthly means and standard deviation about the monthly values. After standardization, a general multistation linear autoregressive model was developed and the information from adjacent station was utilized to represent the stochastic component of monthly flows. The stationary stochastic series were found to fit well by linear autoregressive schemes of order one, the adequacy of fit being judged on the agreement of theoretical variances with computed ones |
